JINAN WEST NEW TOWN EXPO CENTER

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Jinan West Town Expo Center incorporates 21st century principles of functional exhibition design from America, Europe and Asia while presenting a character that is unique to Jinan as the ”City of Springs,” due to the numerous artesian springs in the urban city centre. tvsdesign created concepts in two phases: the first made up of the convention center itself and the second the infrastructure to support the center.

THE EXHIBITION CENTER DESIGN IS INSPIRED BY THE NATURAL SPRINGS AND WATERWAYS OF JINAN

PHASE I

The five exhibition hall groups (in plan) are centered on the green axis which runs through the site from the train station. The halls are staggered in plan to take advantage of the site geometry and leave space for the tower, conference center and main outdoor plaza. The curves of the main (west) facade are positioned to capture the energy of the green axis as it terminates at the convention center main entrance. The stepping halls and the curving facade elements add to the iconic character and skyline profile of the buildings.

The exhibition center design is inspired by the natural springs and waterways of Jinan. The principles of order and repetition govern the function conscious exhibition halls, while the dynamic curving flow of the concourse into the conference center and up the tower give the complex its dramatic character.

PHASE II

To continue and complete the design of the Phase I convention center, the Phase II auxiliary buildings take advantage of the building program, fulfilling the original ‘spring’ concept. The continuous curve of the podium and 220 meter tower creates elegant massing which complements the convention center mass, creating a beautiful skyline at the end of the green axis of the Central District of Jinan West New Town. The hotel tower creates a landmark icon for this large complex.

The Phase II buildings support the convention center by providing conference, office, hotel and retail space. The conference center offers a large ballroom, flex hall, junior flex hall, 1,500 seat auditorium and ample meeting rooms. The tower hosts office space as well as two hotels having totally over 800 keys. The lower level of the tower will also provide mixed-use retail spaces and meeting function.

Three independent drop-off plazas and entrance lobbies are provided for the conference, office, and hotel guests. Parking is located conveniently underground.
